POA Questions to the 2010 Canditates for County Commissioner
The attached questions have been presented to the candidates for Garrett County Commissioner by the POA Board of Directors. We hope that their responses (below) will help your decision as to which candidate(s) to support. Of course, we realize that many POA members cannot vote in Garrett county. That does not stop you from supporting and promoting your candidate(s) of choice!

Proposed Revisions to Planning and Zoning Ordinances
Just a quick note regarding the March 6, 2010 Public Hearing concerning the proposed revisions to the Deep Creek Watershed Zoning Ordinance, Garrett County Subdivision Ordinance, and the Garrett County Sensitive Areas Ordinance:
With only a third of the Garrett College Auditorium filled, and following a brief overview by the Planning Department on the Revisions, Public Comment was heard from about 8 different people. I presented the POA's position to recommend the approval of the revisions. The POA Board of Directors unanimously felt that the revisions that were updated from the original drafts that were presented back in October were acceptable. While not everyone finds the revisions 100%, considering the broad scope, the revisions would serve the majority without undue hardship. All those who spoke seemed content with the revisions and made individual constructive comments for the Planning Commission's consideration. The meeting started at 10 AM and it was over at 11 AM.
Chairman Troy Ellington of the Planning Commission announced that the public comment period will be open for the next two weeks, at which time the Planning Commission will present the revisions to the County Commissioners.
Please avail yourself to the County's Website: www.Garrettcounty.org and visit the section of the DRAFT REVISIONS TO ORDINANCES.
The POA urges you to make comments to the Planning Commission if you have any suggestions or input.
Best regards,
Lou Battistella, President

Deep Creek Dispatch
We have accomplished an improvement in our communication with you, the members of the POA, with our electronic mail format which includes our capability to send alerts to you on hot topics. We plan to maintain the print version of the Dispatch at least through the Spring Issue. Subsequent newsletters will be limited to the "e-format" only and they will be emailed to you. Sign up below
The newsletter is for members only. If you are not a member already, please click on "Member Login" (to the left) and join the POA!
Why select the electronic newsletter?
- The electronic Dispatch will be received as soon as it is produced, not six weeks later as is the case with the printed version.
- You will receive urgent news in a timely manner.
- The e-Dispatch is less costly to produce, leaving more funds for projects to help the lake and county.
- Ultimately, only the e-Dispatch will be produced.

Boat Noise
As stated in the Winter 2009 Dispatch this may be the last chance to voice your opinion on regulations to control excessive boat noise. It looks like the course is set to adopt SAE J 1970 as its standard. Many other states use this measure. Click here to link to the regulation.
